Satelite lab...

for this whole month i'm working in a "satelite lab" which is opened by the company for this specialist clinic. Honestly i find it a waste of money and a waste of time. This is a women health specialist clinic. There are no "urgent" tests. By urgent i really meant urgent... those between life and death situations. I think after working in a lab long enough you'll kind of categorised what's urgent and what's not based on emergency. All doctors wants their results asap. But we have so many samples everyday. We can't possibly give all results within an hour. That's just insane. So we have our priorities. And trust me.... specialist clinic most of the time are not really urgent cases... especially when it's women health specialist clinic. Yes we know some patients are nervous about knowing if they are pregnant or not.... but that's not "urgent" compared to a patient who's just came in with heavy bleeding and all that.

There weren't many samples from the clinic as well. I'd say.... about 3-5 blood tests a day with may be 3-8 pap smears and HVS. I really don't see the need to open a lab just to cater these few samples. Rich doctors are too much sometimes. And I'm just so unlucky to be entrusted with such duty. I spent more than half of the time in the lab playing games. Luckily my colleague who was on duty here last month has installed some games and bought a speaker for the computer. Or else i'll be so bored. Even so, i can't keep playing... because our computer system is linked to our IT back in main lab. And they actually monitor what we're doing. A lot of sites like yahoo and google and also hotmail and friendster and facebook are blocked. Leaving me sites which i know the full url for me to browse. How many can i remember anyway? Even if i remember there's this feeling like i'm being watched. Cus the IT fellas can actually see what u're doing. Sigh....

It's going to be a boring month!
